The survey was carried out between July 2018 and June 2019. Although 69 farms were initially considered for the study, only 30 producers were still actively engaged in the activity at the time of data collection. Various variables were analyzed, including location, age range, level of formalization, and educational background. A high degree of heterogeneity was observed; however, it was determined that pig farming is predominantly managed by men, with an average age of 49, indicating an aging population. Additionally, it was found that most producers engage in other income-generating activities, with only 25% exclusively dedicated to pig farming. This diversification highlights the complementary role that pig production plays in household economies, within a context of low formalization and limited access to technical or institutional support. These results can serve as a basis for future research focused on specific aspects of local pig production La producción porcina en el Noroeste de la Provincia de Corrientes se desarrolla como un proceso de reserva económica relacionado principalmente con el modelo productivo de la escala de agricultura familiar. El objetivo de este estudio fue realizar la caracterización de los productores de cerdos de los departamentos Capital y San Cosme a través de entrevistas con los propietarios de los establecimientos. El mismo fue llevado a cabo durante los meses de julio de 2018 a junio de 2019. Se propuso encuestar a 69 establecimientos, sin embargo, al momento de la caracterización solo 30 productores continuaban desarrollando la actividad. Se analizaron diversas variables tales como: localización, rango etario, formalización de la actividad y nivel de escolaridad. Se determinó una gran heterogeneidad, sin embargo, se pudo determinar que la producción porcina es gestionada principalmente por personas hombres, con un promedio de edad de 49 años, lo que refleja una población en proceso de envejecimiento. Asimismo, se evidenció que desarrollan otras actividades a modo de complementar sus ingresos, siendo solo el 25% quienes se dedican de manera exclusiva a la producción de cerdo. Esta diversificación señala el rol complementario que cumple la producción de cerdos en la economía familiar, en un contexto de baja formalización y escaso acceso a asistencia técnica o institucional. Estos resultados pueden ser de base para otras investigaciones que profundicen sobre aspectos específicos de la actividad porcina local.
