Sumario:This article examines the historical evolution of the water sector in Argentina, particularly in the province of Tucumán, focusing on its management. The objective is to analyze the ways in which water has been managed over time to understand the current situation from a perspective that restores the connection between water and people, and moves beyond a technocratic-legalistic approach. A theoretical framework based on the Political Ecology of Water is adopted, recognizing the underlying power relations in water management decisions. The conclusions highlight the diversification in resource management, with seemingly well-defined responsibilities that are blurred in practice, unsustainable uses, and overlooked issues. Emerging research challenges are identified, related to debates on public and private interests, as well as on water´s quality and availability and the access as a fundamental human right, in the face of political and economic interests.
