Sumario:This paper deals with the phytoplankton primary production and some of its limnological parameters of the Middle Paraná River in the stretch Corrientes-Esquina.Primary production estomates were obtained from incubation in situ of light and dark bottle columns, assessing the 14C fixation during March 1961-March 1962.The annual carbon fixation pattern showed changes closely related to the plankton concentration, transparency of the water and hydrometric level of the river. Primary production was low during the flood in conditions of high phytoplankton dilution and water turbity, increasing sharply during the low water favoured by the increment in phytoplankton concentration and transparency. In Corrientes, there are important limnological differences between both two margins. The influence of the Paraguay River increases the suspended and dissolved solids towards the right bank. Phytoplankton production is very low there, because of the high turbidity. In Esquina, about 300 km down stream there are still some differences in the cross section.
