Sumario:The significant increase in studies on material intervention in architectural heritage at the nationallevel has been supported by the progressive specialization of professionals in this field. Thisphenomenon is partly due to the availability of academic programs with a professional focus. However, there are still gaps in technical knowledge about historical materials and their compatibilitywith contemporary ones, leading to a dichotomy between renovation and conservation that, in somecases, compromises the integrity and preservation of structures. This document presents a developing line of research and its current progress, aiming to proposestrategies to address these gaps through the incorporation of transdisciplinary content in educationand academic research. This approach is believed to enhance rigor in the study of constructionmaterials and promote epistemological development regarding technologies for constructingpre-existing habitats. It is assumed that improving intervention strategies for existing buildings, particularly through materials and their degradation effects, is essential for advancing sustainablepractices in architecture.
