Sumario:This paper aims to offer some initial coordinates for a broader project on the critical examination of the figure of the informant as it appears in various instances of the history of linguistics, especially in South America, in a period that initially spans from the late nineteenth century to the late twentieth century. The dynamics of language that we propose to observe here is that of its construction as an object of knowledge through the production of a discourse authorized by its scientific condition, which strives to produce a representation of the empirical reality of its object, which may in turn result in a direct intervention in it, once again, as a discursively produced political artifact.
