Sumario:Coliform bacteria indicate contamination of both water and food, so its study of water for human consumption is essential. The presence of these bacteria was analyzed in 32 underground water sources: wells and boreholes, in order to determine the bacteriological quality for human consumption, using the most probable number method (MPN). The results showed the presence of total coliform and thermotolerant bacteria above the maximum admissible limits according to the CAA in all the well samples. However, 6 out of 16 boreholes analyzed are suitable for consumption, in addition, lower bacterial load was reported. It is concluded that many of these sources do not meet the sanitary requirements for human consumption, being well water the one that showed major contamination.
