| Sumario: | This contribution presents the collaboration with the Municipality of Saladas (Corrientes, Argentina) in the ecological diagnosis of the Soto Lake, an ecosystem of great regional socio-environmental value. This lake has been studied since the 1990s by some of the researchers of the team, due to the eutrophication process caused by the entry of household effluents, which caused a loss of water quality with a restriction of its use for recreational purposes. The case of Saladas is of interest not only for the intrinsic loss or decrease in the use of water resources, but also for the subtropical area of Latin America, due to the existence of analogous situations that are pending the development of adequate management guidelines. These include the poorly planned growth of urban centers in flood areas. Local teachers and students were involved in this project with the aim of raising awareness and sensitizing people to the need to care for natural resources. The development of this project generated information of interest to the society that uses this resource and for government authorities, with the aim of contributing to decision-making for the adequate management and conservation of the biological integrity and ecosystem services provided by this wetland. This information was not only of interest to the inhabitants of the city of Saladas, but also to the inhabitants of the entire region. |
