Sumario:Considering the aesthetic effects that the intensiveconstruction of high-rise buildings has on the materiallandscapes of Chilean cities, this text explores the notion of the sublime as a way of characterizing the modes of amazement and perplexity that they produce in those who dwell in these urban environments. After analyzing a large set of photographs of high-rise buildings taken during research conducted between 2016 and 2023, the paper exposes and discusses a framing that proposes three types of sublime that can be useful to characterize the poetics of dwelling that the sociotechnical phenomenon of verticalization suggests to those who observe it. The text concludes that the technical poetics identified are organized around scales of vastness that underlie their aesthetic effect.
