The present study aims to analyze the relationship between both variables in the departments of General Güemes and Almirante Brown (northwest of the province of Chaco) between 2011 and 2018, considering official statistical data on loss of tree cover, data on agricultural area and, in addition, examining land use change plans, complemented with satellite data and images. These allowed to build graphs and observe correlations between the data. The results indicate that, for the selected period (2011-2018), there has been an increase in deforestation, which does not strictly correlate with the increase in the area used for agricultural purposes, noting that the latter - in general terms - is stable in the northwestern part of the Chaco. This work does not address the causes of such behavior, but nevertheless, some ideas and questions are presented that may guide new research in the future. Diversos estudios y relevamientos realizados para el período comprendido entre fines de los años ochenta (S. XX) y los inicios de la década de 2010 (S. XXI) muestran la correspondencia existente entre la superficie deforestada y el aumento de la superficie agrícola, tanto a nivel provincial, como en los departamentos del Noroeste chaqueño. El presente estudio plantea analizar la relación entre ambas variables en los departamentos General Güemes y Almirante Brown (Noroeste de la provincia del Chaco) entre 2011 y 2018, considerando datos estadísticos oficiales sobre pérdida de cobertura arbórea, datos de superficie agropecuaria y, además, examinando los planes de cambio de uso de la tierra, complementados con datos e imágenes satelitales. Los mismos permitieron construir gráficos y observar correlaciones entre los datos. Los resultados indican que, para el período seleccionado (2011-2018) se registra un aumento de la deforestación, que no guarda una estricta correlación con el incremento de la superficie destinada a fines agropecuarios, advirtiéndose que esta última –en líneas generales- se encuentra estabilizada en la porción noroccidental del Chaco. En este trabajo no se abordan las causas de tal comportamiento, pero no obstante, se exponen algunas ideas e interrogantes que podrán guiar nuevas investigaciones a futuro.
