Sumario:The objective of this study is to identify management practices and knowledge about urban solid waste in homes in Chetumal, in order to draw up appropriate strategies to prevent environmental, economic and social impacts. In 2019, a survey was applied to 404 homes with a confidence level of 95%, using random and systematic sampling to select households, using Basic Geostatistical Areas. The study highlights the importance of education, citizen participation and the effective policies and strategies to improve solid waste management in homes. It is concluded that theoretical knowledge is essential to design effective and sustainable strategies to improve solid waste management practices in homes in different contexts.
