Adobe is mentioned as the main component of the housing envelope, its energy behavior and environmental advantages of its use due to the low carbon footprint that its manufacture implies. However, the hollow ceramic brick and the concrete block are the currently chosen materials.Finally, the need for greater state intervention and other organizations is raised, which promote the improvement of rural housing with the participation of the rural inhabitant, differentiating it from urban housing when designing public housing policies, generating knowledge and guaranteeing technology transfer. El presente artículo aborda los cambios producidos en la concepción y construcción de la vivienda rural de Quebrada de Humahuaca con la creciente incorporación de materiales industrializados, en detrimento de materiales locales y la pérdida de saberes constructivos tradicionales. Se describe el sector de estudio, el acceso a la tierra y las características de la vivienda rural. Se menciona al adobe como componente principal de la envolvente de la vivienda, su comportamiento energético y ventajas ambientales de su utilización debido a la baja huella de carbono que implica su fabricación. Sin embargo, el ladrillo cerámico hueco y el bloque de hormigón son los materiales elegidos actualmente. Finalmente se plantea la necesidad de una mayor intervención estatal y de otras organizaciones, que promuevan la mejora de la vivienda rural con participación del habitante rural, diferenciándola de la vivienda urbana al diseñar políticas públicas habitacionales, generar conocimientos y garantizar la transferencia tecnológica.
