Sumario:This article addresses the changes produced in the conception and construction of rural housing in Quebrada de Humahuaca with the increasing incorporation of industrialized materials, to the detriment of local materials and the loss of traditional construction knowledge.The study sector, access to land and the characteristics of rural housing are described. Adobe is mentioned as the main component of the housing envelope, its energy behavior and environmental advantages of its use due to the low carbon footprint that its manufacture implies. However, the hollow ceramic brick and the concrete block are the currently chosen materials.Finally, the need for greater state intervention and other organizations is raised, which promote the improvement of rural housing with the participation of the rural inhabitant, differentiating it from urban housing when designing public housing policies, generating knowledge and guaranteeing technology transfer.
