El sistema educativo en los Territorios Nacionales de la Patagonia estuvo caracterizado, durante la primera mitad del siglo XX, por la relación directa con el Estado nacional a través del Consejo Nacional de Educación, del cual dependía directamente. Sin embargo, la realidad de los territorios presentó condicionantes para el avance estatal en materia educativa. Durante la década de 1930 las estrategias utilizadas por el CNE fueron cambiando frente a un diagnóstico negativo sobre la persistencia del analfabetismo en los Territorios. Este artículo se propone analiza el crecimiento del sistema educativo de la Gobernación de Río Negro a través de los Censos de los años 1932, 1940 y 1948, buscando entrecruzar discursos sobre analfabetismo y las cifras provistas por los censos. The educational system in the National Territories of Patagonia was characterized, during the first half of the 20th century, by the direct relationship with the national State through the National Council of Education, on which it directly depended. However, the reality of the territories presented conditions for state advancement in education. During the 1930s the strategies used by the CNE were changing in the face of a negative diagnosis on the persistence of illiteracy in the Territories.
