Sumario:Fil: Taking into consideration the significance globally attached to inclusive education, and the critical role teachers have in fostering inclusive environments, my research work has focused on the training of teacher candidates in inclusive education. Cardona (2009), cited in Teacher Education for Inclusion – International Literature Review (2010), notes that concentration on initial teacher education “... would seem to provide the best means to create a new generation of teachers who will ensure the successful implementation of inclusive policies and practices” (p. 35). This literature review will explore how pre-service teacher education prepares teachers- to-be to teach effectively in socio culturally diverse settings. The review also considers the policy framework necessary to facilitate the changes required in teacher education to support the move towards a more inclusive education system. As it is such a vast field, the development of this work will attempt to give an answer to the following research questions, which guided the reading of the bibliographical sources: What is inclusive education? Is pre-serving teacher training in inclusive education a priority in the global education policy makers’ agenda? Does the pre-service teacher education curriculum provide teachers-to-be guidelines on how to implement inclusive practices? How can pre-service teacher training suitably qualify teacher candidates for inclusive education? What is the impact of pre service teaching training programs on the development of positive attitudes and feelings towards children with special educational needs? The present literary review will also provide relevant data collected from both current research on the field and on a series of official documents issued by UNESCO, the European Agency of Education, UNICEF and Mercosur Educativo, between 2005 and 2015.
