| Sumario: | With the increasing global focus on sustainable development and corporate social responsibility, ESG practices have become a key factor in the success of corporate overseas investments. This paper focuses on the risks faced by Chinese mining companies in their investments in Argentina, including the four dimensions of ecological environment, human capital, social relations, and corporate governance, and explores how ESG practices influence the sustainable development of mining companies’ overseas investments. Through a case study approach, the study analyzes Ganfeng Lithium’s investment and operations in Argentina from the perspective of ESG risk management. The study concludes that Ganfeng Lithium has effectively improved the benefits of its investment in Argentina through ecological measures such as solar-powered lithium extraction, refined water resource management, and biodiversity protection; human capital measures such as occupational health and safety training and employment equality; social relations measures such as community empowerment and co-construction; and corporate governance measures such as supply chain management optimization and anti-corruption efforts. These initiatives have positively impacted local society and the environment, providing a commendable example for other Chinese companies to follow. |
