With the increasing global focus on sustainable development and corporate social responsibility, ESG practices have become a key factor in the success of corporate overseas investments. This paper focuses on the risks faced by Chinese mining companies in their investments in Argentina, including the four dimensions of ecological environment, human capital, social relations, and corporate governance, and explores how ESG practices influence the sustainable development of mining companies’ overseas investments. Through a case study approach, the study analyzes Ganfeng Lithium’s investment and operations in Argentina from the perspective of ESG risk management. The study concludes that Ganfeng Lithium has effectively improved the benefits of its investment in Argentina through ecological measures such as solar-powered lithium extraction, refined water resource management, and biodiversity protection; human capital measures such as occupational health and safety training and employment equality; social relations measures such as community empowerment and co-construction; and corporate governance measures such as supply chain management optimization and anti-corruption efforts. These initiatives have positively impacted local society and the environment, providing a commendable example for other Chinese companies to follow. |

Con la creciente atención mundial al desarrollo sostenible y la responsabilidad social corporativa, las prácticas ESG –environmental, social and governance factors, por sus siglas en inglés– se están convirtiendo en un factor clave para el éxito de las inversiones corporativas en el extranjero. Este trabajo se centra en los riesgos a los que se enfrentan las empresas mineras chinas en sus inversiones en Argentina, incluyendo las cuatro dimensiones de entorno ecológico, capital humano, relaciones sociales y gobernanza corporativa, y explora las vías a través de las cuales las prácticas ESG influyen en el desarrollo sostenible de las inversiones de las empresas mineras en el extranjero. El estudio analiza la inversión y las operaciones de Ganfeng Lithium Group Co., Ltd. (en adelante, Ganfeng Lithium) en Argentina desde la perspectiva de la gestión de riesgos ESG a través del método de estudio de casos. El estudio concluye que Ganfeng Lithium mejoró eficazmente los beneficios de su inversión en Argentina a través de medidas ecológicas como la extracción de litio con energía solar, la gestión de recursos hídricos refinados y la protección de la biodiversidad, medidas de capital humano como la formación en salud y seguridad en el trabajo y la igualdad en el empleo, medidas de relaciones sociales como el empoderamiento y la co-construcción de la comunidad, y medidas de gobierno corporativo como la optimización de la gestión de la cadena de suministro y la lucha contra la corrupción. Por ello, tuvo un impacto positivo en la sociedad y el medio ambiente locales y proporcionó un buen ejemplo a seguir por otras empresas chinas.
