description The purpose of the elaboration performed on drug trafficking organizations focuses on the lessons to be learned from the Mexican experience and the different facets observed over a century in this country. At present many positions are observed regarding the strategies adopted, but few details on how to address this asymmetric threat. The paper briefly presents the main events and characteristics of the development of drug trafficking organizations to present, to finally put focus on the latest proposals of scholars. The review of what happened to public safety in Mexico, aims to provide an additional sources of reflection for those who have the responsibility to develop Public Policies for countries affected with the same issue, so it can be found a way to resolve this scourge that does not respect governance systems.
