Abstract: Since George Dossin published the Shamash-Temple Brick Inscription in 1955 it has attracted repeated attention from scholars on account of its rich geographic and historic information. Yet despite the text’s certain readings as well as several erudite investigations into its historical significance, at least one oddity continues to trouble interpreters.
