Precisamente Hayek, un reconocido economista austríaco (1899–1992) lideró la creación en 1947 de la Sociedad Mont Pèlerin, reunida en el hotel de la localidad suiza del mismo nombre, y fundada como plataforma para que destacados economistas e intelectuales intercambiaran y debatieran las ideas y valores liberales en el siglo XX, luego de la Segunda Guerra Mundial. Había preocupación en ese entonces por el avance del comunismo y se disentía en Occidente también con las políticas de sesgo intervencionista que se habían desplegado durante la “Gran Depresión” y la guerra, y que el legado de John M.
