The collected metaphors were analyzed according to the proposal made by Saban (2004), who classifies them in metaphors centered on the teacher and metaphors centered on the student. The method reveals that the individuals produced metaphors about the teachers, generally in accordance to Saban’s (2004) classification. Furthermore, the results revealed that students conceptualized teachers in most of the cases in an affective way, i.e. as parents. Therefore, no pedagogical aspects are highlighted, but the role as caregivers and guides within the process of educating students. Also, teachers are seen as authority figures, who must apply norms and correct disrespects. Also, teachers are seen as authority figures, who must apply norms and correct disrespects.  O objetivo da pesquisa é analisar as metáforas conceituais produzidas pelos estudantes das escolas secundárias no Chile sobre os/as professores/as. Os fundamentos teóricos da pesquisa provêm da metáfora conceitual e da cognição. Construiu-se um questionário para recolher as representações metafóricas de um corpus de sujeitos. As metáforas obtidas foram analisadas seguindo a proposta de Saban (2004), quem as classifica em metáforas centradas no professor e metáforas centradas no estudante. A aplicação revela que os sujeitos produziram metáforas sobre os/as professores/as que ajustam-se, em geral, à classificação de Saban. Além disso, os resultados mostraram que os/as estudantes conceitualizam aos/as professores/ as, muitas vezes de maneira afetiva, isso é, como pais/mães. Assim, não se destacam aspectos pedagógicos propriamente ditos; mas também seu trabalho de cuidadores e guias dentro do processo de formação dos seus estudantes; do mesmo modo, os professores são vistos como figuras de autoridade, que devem aplicar normas e punir os desacatos.  Instituto de Lingüística.
