Its consolidation coincided with a moment of significant socio-economic transformations for the town. This article examines the history of this devotion focusing on two related aspects: the various agents involved and the identity reconfigurations that went along with its development. Through historic and ethnographic research, I explore the meanings attached to this cult and analyze how the religious symbol has operated within San Nicolás’s society. En la ciudad argentina de San Nicolás de los Arroyos se ha desarrollado desde 1983 el culto a una imagen de la Virgen del Rosario con creciente convocatoria, coincidiendo su consolidación y crecimiento con un período de significativas transformaciones socioeconómicas para la ciudad. En este trabajo recorro la trayectoria de la devoción atendiendo a dos aspectos: los distintos actores que en ella intervinieron y las reconfiguraciones identitarias que acompañaron su devenir. Recurriendo a la indagación histórica y etnográfica, se exploran los significados que el culto ha recibido y se analiza cómo ha operado el símbolo religioso en el singular contexto de la sociedad nicoleña. A devoção crescente de uma imagem da Virgem do Rosário iniciou-se em 1983, na cidade argentina de San Nicolás de los Arroyos, e sua consolidação e crescimento acontecem em um período de mudanças sócio-econômicas significativas para a cidade. Neste trabalho, percorro a trajetória da devoção por meio de dois elementos: os atores envolvidos e as reconfigurações identitárias que acompanharam a sua evolução. Ao utilizar o inquérito histórico e etnográfico, exploro os significados que o culto tem recebido e analiso a maneira como se operou o símbolo religioso no âmbito singular da sociedade nicoleña.
