| Sumario: | In this article I describe the changes in the performance organization and the spatial dynamics that the stage established in the musical practice of sambadores from Cachoeira, Bahia. For this, I analyze two processes that are coetaneous and interrelated: the professionalization of samba in Cachoeira through a local category of spectacle, the tocada; and the conversion of religious festivals into great events of the cultural and tourist agenda of Bahia. Among such festivals, the São João Feira do Porto is presented as an exemplary event of the establishment of the stage as a new territory for samba and religious celebrations. The article aims to demonstrate that the spectacularization of the religious festivals and the tocadas of samba have created a sound spatiality that bring together events, people, and repertoires – once dispersed throughout a countless number of events interwoven by local networks of sociability – in the same place, the stage. |
