Analyzed two Latin American geographers’ (Josué de Castro and Antonio Núñez) recognized in their countries of origin, but meagerly studied in Latin America. We examine the manifestations of dissatisfaction with the traditional geography in the region and at the same time show how South American geopolitics emerged and its opposition to a type of geography of critical cut. 1978 was identified as a crucial year for the geography of critical gaze, with activities in Brazil and Mexico, as a sign of the dissatisfaction with traditional geography.  Later, with the return to democracy and the advance of critical geography, the Latin American Geography Meetings were organized as an expression of the deeply critical Latin American organization. The hypothesis this work is that Latin American critical geography has a specific development and is not only the reflection of what was done in Europe or the United States, although it is related and strengthened from the proposals of Anglo-Saxon and French critical geography, but the critical geography of Latin America also has its resistances and contributions: a particular story that needs to be told.
