The choice of this text has been motivated firstly by the scarcity of bibliographical sources in the Spanish language related to this treatise as well as regarding botany as a theoretical discipline in the Middle Ages. Secondly, given the existence of multiple versions and translations of the Book on Plants, we have selected this edition because English translations of the initial Latin version of Alfred of Sareshel or Alfredus Anglicus are already available, and also due to its place in the Venetian corpus of Averroes’ commentaries. Moreover, given that this is the last retroversion of the Book on Plants that we know of, it is also our intention to contribute to the history of the reception of this treatise regarding the terminology it contains. A botanical glossary just as the plants are named in the text is attached, hoping researchers interested in both the History of Philosophy and History of Science will deem it useful. En el presente artículo, presentamos una traducción del libro primero del Liber de plantis o Libro sobre las plantas según se encuentra en la edición Iunctina de las obras de Aristóteles y Averroes compilada en el siglo XVI en Venecia. Lo que nos ha llevado a elegir esta obra es, en primer lugar, la escasez de bibliografía en lengua castellana sobre dicho tratado, así como sobre la botánica como disciplina teórica en la Edad Media. En segundo lugar, dada la existencia de múltiples versiones del Liber de plantis, nos hemos decidido por la que aquí presentamos debido a que ya existen traducciones al inglés de la versión latina inicial de Alfred de Sareshel o Alfredo Ánglico, así como por su lugar en el corpus veneciano de los comentarios de Averroes. Asimismo, dado que esta es la última retroversión de la que tenemos constancia, con esta traducción es también nuestra intención contribuir a la historia de la recepción del tratado que nos ocupa en lo que respecta a la terminología en él recogida. A nuestra traducción adjuntamos un léxico botánico, tal y como los nombres de las plantas aparecen en el texto, que esperamos sirva a los investigadores interesados tanto en la Historia de la Filosofía como en la Historia de la Ciencia.
