First, this paper aims to study these figures through their daily roles as emissaries and confidants of the tlatoani. Later, the study will focus on the staging entertainment activities by these individuals, ranging from music and dance to acrobatics. Another topic to be analyzed will be the sacrifice of dwarfs and hunchbacks to accompany the deceased sovereign in the hereafter, as well as atypical events such as drought or a solar eclipse. Through the information traced in the historical records of the 16th century, the article provides new interpretive clues to understand the importance of these figures in the pre-Hispanic Nahua society. Este artículo propone un acercamiento a las funciones desempeñadas por enanos y jorobados en la sociedad mexica y, en particular, en la vida palaciega del soberano. En primer lugar, el trabajo pretende estudiar estos personajes a través de sus papeles cotidianos, como emisarios y confidentes del tlatoani. Sucesivamente, el estudio se centrará en las actividades de entretenimiento puestas en escena por estos individuos, mismas que abarcaban desde la música y danza hasta la acrobacia. Otro tema que se analizará será el sacrificio de enanos y jorobados para acompañar al soberano difunto en el más allá y en caso de sequía o eclipse solar. A través de la información rastreada en las fuentes documentales del siglo XVI, el artículo proporciona nuevas pistas interpretativas para comprender la importancia de estos personajes en la sociedad nahua prehispánica. Este artigo propõe uma abordagem aos papéis desempenhados por anões e corcundas na sociedade asteca e, em particular, na vida palaciana do soberano. Primeiramente, o trabalho visa estudar essas figuras por meio de seus papéis cotidianos como emissários e confidentes dos tlatoani. Em seguida, o estudo se concentrará nas atividades de entretenimento realizadas por esses indivíduos, que variavam de música e dança a acrobacias. Outro tópico analisado será o sacrifício de anões e corcundas para acompanhar o soberano falecido na vida após a morte e em caso de seca ou eclipse solar. Por meio de informações rastreadas até fontes documentais do século XVI, o artigo fornece novas pistas interpretativas para a compreensão da importância dessas figuras na sociedade nahua pré-hispânica.
