The perception of space belongs to each society in a given period of time and becomes an essential reference to historic investigation. However, it is not always taken into account in the process of research generating, in some occasions, problems of non-critical correspondances between the toponyms appearing in historic documents and the ones shown in present day cartography, even if spatial conventions  are "naturalized" or if categories of space and time are used anachronistically.  Este trabajo es una reflexión del vínculo entre la investigación histórica y el espacio -la geografía o el paisaje- y los problemas que se plantean a la hora de confrontar las fuentes, la cartografía y las diferentes apreciaciones históricas de dicho espacio. La percepción y ordenamiento del espacio es propia de cada sociedad y de cada tiempo y por lo tanto constituye una referencia esencial en las investigaciones históricas . Sin embargo, no siempre es tenida en cuenta en el proceso de la investigacion generando, en algunas ocasiones, problemas de correspondencias acríticas entre los topónimos que aparecen en los documentos históricos con los de la cartografía actual, así se "naturalicen" las convenciones espaciales, o se utilicen anacrónicamente categorías de espacio y tiempo.   Sección Etnohistoria, Instituto de Ciencias Antropológicas.
