The social relationship between the Jesuits and local society is examined seeking to understand La Rioja society participation in forming the Jesuits patrimony. The strategies the Company used to succeed in its goals and also the local group´s responses to the Jesuit´s accumulation in the region will be taken into account. It is assumed that La Rioja Jesuits -as was seen in other areas of colonial America- adapted themselves to local conditions being flexible to specific situations in order to achieve their objectives (Christian conversion, education, economic independence). Moreover, it will be shown how much of la Rioja society contributed to the accumulation of Jesuit patrimony through different ways, and at the same time stopped the Order´s economic expansion.  Este trebajo se propone estudiar el proceso de adquisición de propiedades por la Compañía de Jesús en La Rioja colonial con el objetivo de comprender las relaciones sociales inmersas en ese proceso. Se prestará atención a las estrategias desplegadas por los jesuitas para concretar con éxitos sus acciones y a las respuestas de los grupos locales frente a la acumulación de las tierras del Colegio en la región. Se parte del supuesto de que los jesuitas de La Rioja -tal como se vislumbró para otras áreas de la América colonial- se adaptaron a las condiciones locales respondiendo de manera flexible a las situaciones puntuales para alcanzar objetivos normatizados (evangelización, educación y autarquía económica). Asimismo, se intenta demostrar como miembros de la sociedad riojana contribuyeron en la conformación del patrimonio jesuítico en virtud de una gama variada de intereses, al mismo tiempo que pusieron freno a la expansión económica de la Orden.  Este ensaio tem como objetivo estudar o processo de aquisição de propriedades pela Companhia de Jesus na La Rioja colonial, com o objetivo de compreender as relações sociais imbricadas nesse processo. Será dada atenção às estratégias empregadas pelos jesuítas para implementar com sucesso suas ações e às respostas de grupos locais à acumulação de terras do Colégio na região. Supõe-se que os jesuítas de La Rioja -como observado em outras áreas da América colonial- se adaptaram às condições locais, respondendo com flexibilidade a situações específicas para atingir objetivos padronizados (evangelização, educação e autossuficiência econômica). Também se busca demonstrar como os membros da sociedade de La Rioja contribuíram para a formação da herança jesuíta por meio de uma gama diversificada de interesses, ao mesmo tempo em que contiveram a expansão econômica da Ordem.
