Alongside with the exposition of reflections and methodological decisions made throughout the research, the manuscript ties together processes such us: civil war, indigenous politics and interethnic dynamics, incorporating what happened in the abovementioned fort into a broader explanation. The result is the analysis of the links, quite elusive in the archival sources at hand, between actors and events from different places and situations, which contributes not only to study the malón on fort Arévalo and the interethnic conflict in western Buenos Aires, but also to the political history of indigenous societies and frontier society as a whole. A partir de un malón sobre el fortín Arévalo -ubicado en Saladillo- ocurrido en 1859 y el sumario instruido para determinar la respuesta de los funcionarios político-militares de esa frontera, este trabajo describe un proceso de investigación sobre la historia indígena de la segunda mitad del siglo XIX, en las Pampas. Simultáneamente a la exposición de las reflexiones y decisiones metodológicas elaboradas, el manuscrito anuda procesos asociados a la guerra civil, la política indígena y las dinámicas interétnicas, incorporando lo sucedido en el mencionado fortín en una explicación más amplia. El resultado es la reconstrucción de las conexiones, elusivas en las fuentes analizadas, entre actores y hechos de diferentes espacios y coyunturas que contribuye no solo al análisis del malón sobre el fortín Arévalo y la conflictividad interétnica enel oeste bonaerense, sino también al de la historia política de las sociedades indígenas y de la sociedad de frontera. Com base em um ataque ao Forte Arévalo, localizado em Saladillo, ocorrido em 1859, e na investigação conduzida para determinar a resposta dos oficiais político-militares naquela fronteira, este trabalho descreve um processo de pesquisa sobre a história indígena nos Pampas durante a segunda metade do século XIX. Simultaneamente à exposição das reflexões e decisões metodológicas tomadas, o manuscrito articula processos associados à guerra civil, à política indígena e à dinâmica interétnica, incorporando o que aconteceu no referido forte em uma explicação mais ampla. O resultado é uma reconstrução das conexões, elusivas nas fontes analisadas, entre atores e eventos de diferentes espaços e circunstâncias. Isso contribui não apenas para a análise do ataque ao Forte Arévalo e do conflito interétnico no oeste de Buenos Aires, mas também para a história política das sociedades indígenas e da sociedade fronteiriça.
