For more than fifty years, his poems, essays and translations have shaped a deep approach to the building of a national literature scarred by colonization’s linguistic and ideological effects. This article will compare and analize two of Kinsella’s peripathetic poems: “A Country Walk” (1962) and The Pen Shop (1997). This analysis will help us to observe how Kinsella’s poems propose a complex web of relations between conciousness, space, myth and tradition. These links can be framed -and included into- the wider scope of postcolonial literary studies. The analysis will lean on three major pillars. Kinsella’s essays, on one hand, will give us a sample of his awareness of the many subjective issues underlining his poetry. The academia, on the other hand, will give us an essential support to unmingle the many historical, geographical and personal references in both poems. Finally, the theories regarding subject-space relations –from Michel de Certeau to Walter Benjamin– will help us demonstrate the meanings created between frontiers, space and territory during these poetical-meditative strolls. La obra del poeta Thomas Kinsella propone una constante indagación de la relación entre poesía y tradición en la literatura de Irlanda. Por más de cincuenta años, sus poemas, ensayos y traducciones han configurado una mirada profunda sobre la conformación de una literatura marcada por los efectos lingüísticos e ideológicos de la colonización. Este trabajo se propone analizar comparativamente dos de sus poemas peripatéticos: “A Country Walk” (1962), y The Pen Shop (1997), con el fin de observar cómo proponen un complejo entramado de relaciones entre conciencia, espacio, mito y tradición, relaciones que pueden enmarcarse e incluirse en las problemáticas de la literatura poscolonial. El análisis se apoyará en tres elementos fundamentales. Su ensayística, por un lado, nos permitirá relevar la conceptualización de los problemas subjetivos que subyacen en su poética. La crítica académica, por su parte, dará un aporte fundamental para descifrar las innumerables referencias históricas, geográficas y personales de los poemas analizados. Finalmente, las reflexiones sobre la relación entre el sujeto y el espacio, desde Michel de Certau a Walter Benjamin, nos permitirán demostrar los múltiples sentidos que se crean entre los umbrales, el espacio y el territorio en el andar meditativo-poético del caminante.
