Despite the neutrality adopted after the war outbreak in Europe, the war became omnipresent on the screens of Chilean theatres and cinemas, attracting a broad audience, both from Chileans and from foreign communities living in the country. However, in a context of strong national tensions and fragmentation of public opinion, the projections of films related to the European war provoked solid reactions and tensions, forcing the authorities to increase their control over this medium, which meant the censorship of several films. Este artículo aborda el impacto cultural de la Primera Guerra Mundial en Chile mediante el análisis de su presencia en el mercado cinematográfico. Pese a la neutralidad adoptada frente al estallido bélico europeo, la guerra se hizo omnipresente en las pantallas de los teatros y cines chilenos, atrayendo un amplio público, tanto de chilenos como de comunidades extranjeras residentes en el país. No obstante, en un contexto de fuertes tensiones nacionales y de fragmentación de la opinión pública, las proyecciones de cintas relacionadas con la guerra europea provocaron fuertes reacciones y tensiones, obligando a las autoridades a aumentar el control sobre este medio, lo cual significó la censura de varias películas.
