This work seeks to define the model of the genre that the collection promoted in its first stage (1945-1956), examining all published works of the time and in dialogue with the materials produced by Borges and Bioy in the years they were in charge of the collection. We will try to show that this collection helped to define an idea of genre, based on features such as an antirealistic tone, a classic style, and the rigorous structure of its plot. La colección “El séptimo círculo”, creada y dirigida por Jorge Luis Borges y Adolfo Bioy Casares en 1945, tuvo un rol fundamental para la difusión de la narrativa policial en la Argentina y en Hispanoamérica. El presente trabajo busca reconstruir el modelo del género que la colección promovió en su primera etapa (1945-1956), a partir de una consideración de la totalidad de las obras publicadas en ese período, en diálogo con otros materiales relevantes sobre el género producidos en esos años por Borges y Bioy. Proponemos que la colección contribuyó a definir una idea del género basada en rasgos como su carácter antirrealista, su estilo clásico, el rigor de su arquitectura argumental y la clausura de sentido que implica el desenlace de cada obra.
