This research analyzes the communicative factors that determine the perception of music in young Spanish people from a survey conducted of 1000 individuals of both sexes, aged between 15 and 25 years. Analyzing the socio-demographic, cultural, and educational variables, together with the places where music is listened to, the time and form of exposure to it, and the themes of the most played songs, we conclude that music is an essential communicative element in the configuration of youth identity. However, music today loses its socializing power when it is manipulated by the cultural industry, thus creating a social ear which favours a simple listening to the songs, and causing a socially learnt reply which not always transmits positive values to the young. Conocer la importancia de la música para la juventud nos ayuda a comprender mejor su percepción de la realidad. Esta investigación analiza los factores comunicativos que determinan la percepción de la música a partir de una encuesta realizada en España a 1000 individuos de ambos sexos, con edades comprendidas entre los 15 y los 25 años. El cruce de variables sociodemográficas, culturales y educativas con el lugar de escucha, tiempo y forma de exposición, y el análisis de las temáticas de las canciones más escuchadas, nos llevan a concluir que hoy la música es un elemento comunicativo esencial en la configuración de la identidad juvenil que pierde poder socializador al ser manipulado por las industrias culturales. Esta manipulación crea un oído social que favorece una escucha simple de las canciones, provocando una respuesta socialmente aprendida que no siempre trasmite valores positivos a la juventud. Conhecer a importância da música para a juventude ajuda-nos a compreender melhor a sua percepção da realidade. Esta pesquisa analisa os fatores comunicativos que determinam a percepção da música a partir de uma coleta de dados realizada na Espanha a 1000 indivíduos de ambos os sexos, com idades compreendidas entre 15 e 25 anos. O cruzamento de variáveis sociodemográficas, culturais e educativas com o lugar da escuta, do tempo e da forma de exposição e a análise do tema das canções mais ouvidas, leva-nos a concluir que hoje a música é um elemento comunicativo essencial na configuração da identidade juvenil, que perde o poder socializador quando usada pelas indústrias culturais para configurar um ouvido social que favorece uma simples audição de canções de música popular, provocando uma resposta socialmente aprendida que nem sempre transmite valores positivos à juventude.
