First, it addresses the meaning of the term “second anthropologies”; it then differentiates them from anthropologies in the South and anthropologies of the South. Next, the article discusses certain current transformations of human civilization in general and of the university system specifically, being both the contexts where anthropological knowledge is generated. Finally, the article addresses a critical revision of significant achievements of twentieth century Latin American social and human sciences. Este trabalho entende-se como um aporte ao esclarecimento das caraterísticas e potencialidades das “Antropologias do Sul de América Latina. Primeiro aborda o significado do termo “antropologias segundas” e, a continuação, a diferença entre as antropologias no Sul e as antropologias do Sul. Depois, se discutem algumas transformações atuais da civilização humana em geral e do sistema universitário em particular, constituindo ambos os contextos da geração do conhecimento antropológico. Finalmente, este artigo propõe-se revisar criticamente as conquistas mais importantes nas ciências sociais e humanas latino-americanas no século XX. Este trabajo se entiende como un aporte al esclarecimiento de las características ylos potenciales de las “Antropologías del Sur” latinoamericanas. Primero aborda el significado del término “antropologías segundas” y en seguida la diferencia entre las antropologías en el Sur y las antropologías del Sur. Después se discuten algunas transformaciones actuales de la civilización humana en general y del sistema universitario en particular, constituyendo ambos los contextos de la generación del conocimiento antropológico. Por último, este artículo se propone la revisión crítica de importantes logros de las ciencias sociales y humanas latinoamericanas del siglo XX.
