Likewise, his presence is identified in the travel account collection published by Richard Hakluyt, where he appears as an informant on the fate of different English expeditions to Spanish America. The aim is thus, based on a specific case, to contribute to the study of the Portuguese presence in the region of the viceroyalty of Peru at the end of the 16th and beginning of the 17th centuries, and to the identification of the sources that Hakluyt could have used and edited to make his collection. A través del análisis de relatos de viajes, actas protocolares, correspondencia oficial, informaciones de méritos y servicios y otros documentos, se agregan datos para completar la biografía del portugués Lope Vázquez Pestaña, quien es considerado como el primer comerciante de esclavos del Río de la Plata. Asimismo, se identifica su presencia en la colección de relatos de viajes que publicó Richard Hakluyt, en donde aparece como informante sobre la suerte de distintas expediciones inglesas a la América española. Se trata así, a partir de un caso específico, de contribuir al estudio de la presencia portuguesa en la región del virreinato del Perú a fines del siglo XVI y principios del XVII, y a la identificación de las fuentes que Hakluyt pudo haber utilizado y editado para realizar su colección.
