description 3Artifacts made from non-local raw materials, some of which may have held symbolic value, havebeen recovered in various areas and archaeological sites of the Pampaean region associated withhunter-gatherer groups. Their presence has been interpreted as theresult of processes thatdeveloped especially during theLate Holocene, including the formation of extensive alliancenetworks, an intensification of social interaction, and long-distance exchange of various goods.Within this framework, the present study analyzes a set of 20 lithic spheroids recovered from theCañada Honda 1 site, aLate Holocene occupation established by complex hunter-gatherers whoinhabited the lower Paraná wetlands near the Rolling Pampas. These artifacts stand out for theirquantity (n = 20), the specific lithologies selected for their manufacture, and their morphometriccharacteristics. Their association with a human burial further reinforces their significance. Ouranalyses included the recording of shape, color, size, and weight, petrographic identification ofthe raw materials and an assessment of their potential provenance. Based on these data and thearchaeological context, we evaluate their possible function, with particular attention to non-utilitarian aspects (symbolic, aesthetic, or ludic). Finally, we discuss their acquisition in relationto the broader systems of social interaction and exchange that characterized hunter-gatherergroups in the Pampaen region during theLate Holocene.

Finally, we discuss their acquisition in relationto the broader systems of social interaction and exchange that characterized hunter-gatherergroups in the Pampaen region during theLate Holocene.
