For it we articulate the use of remote sensors technologies, GIS and spatial statistics with histori-cal documentation analysis. Our perspective focuses in a long term process that enriching the possibilities of explaining the interactions between human societies and the environment. We postulate the existence of similarities between the selections and appropriations of the landscape of Valle Fértil between the pre-Hispanic and modern communities. Presentamos un trabajo centrado en el análisis espacial de los emplazamientos de las sociedades de pequeña escala de Valle Fértil (San Juan) entre el 300/1600 DC. Comparamos esas distribuciones con los patrones ocupacionales durante la Colonia y especialmente con las comunidades rurales modernas de pas-tores y campesinos del área. Para ello articulamos el uso de tecnologías de sensores remotos, Sistemas de Información Geográfica y estadística espacial con análisis de documentación histórica. Nuestra perspectiva se enfoca en un de larga duración que enriquece las posibilidades de explicar las interacciones entre socie-dades humanas y el medio ambiente. Postulamos la existencia de similitudes entre las selecciones y apropia-ciones del paisaje de Valle Fértil entre las comunidades prehispánicas y modernas.
