Sumario:This study aims to contribute to the examination of the issue of tuition fees at the Faculty of Law of the University of Buenos Aires and to describe the debates and dilemmas that arose in defense of public education. It analyzes the implementation of tuition fees at this institution from 1874 until the establishment of free education in the 1940s. The main hypothesis presented is that, despite the inclusion of free education in reformist projects, its implementation could not be fully realized. The second hypothesis posits that there were several instances of tuition fee exemptions for students due to various reasons outlined in the existing regulations. These exemptions included women and enabled profound changes in university life
