| Sumario: | Digitality, has made the existence of writings that contradict the traditional conception of writing as a static, perdurable and unalterable object whose capacity to be preserved in individual and collective memory is indestructible, evident. From the flickering lights of cities to the screens of cell phones, countless texts move, transform and disappear. Many avatars of the written text have become ephemeral and kinetic: they are more events than objects. \nThis thesis reflects on the spatiality and temporality of writing and its ways of producing meaning from the formal expression of written signs in their kinetic dimension. More specifically, the object of study is the "writing of the edges", a particular type of writing of ephemeral character and with a kinetic dimension, WHICH that appears in contemporary artworks of different disciplinary fields with analog or digital support, architectural or sculptural, calligraphic or typographic, visual or audiovisual projection or staging. The term writing of the edges -proper of this research- responds, then, to a vast set of works that have alphabetic signs susceptible of being read as protagonist subjects, which incorporate a new variable: time. \nIn the writing of the edges, the status of traditional writing is questioned since, as time is the substance through which it makes sense, what is written has a duration. That is, a time in which it passes, another in which it remains and then disappears or is transformed; thus achieving that ephemeral character and that kinetic dimension that give it a characteristic more of an event than that of an object. Thus, in the writing of the edges, the writing vanishes and the event becomes more important, while in traditional writing, the object endures. For this reason, it can be hypothesized that edge writing has the status of an "object-event". \nFor the purposes of this thesis, the focus is on the expression of the form and its communicative functions from the kinetic dimension, which gives it that ephemeral aspect and generates other modes of reading. In this line, it is affirmed that the writing of the edges not only recovers the ephemeral character, typical of orality, but also its illocutionary force, in a more emphatic way than the one brought into play by static writing. This is affirmed because the quality of event is shared with oral discourse, which also takes place in time, affected by the same ephemeral character. \nTime, expressed as duration, movement and transformation, becomes the substance of the production of meaning of the written form -typographic or calligraphic - which is no longer spatial but temporal. The objective is to show how signs mutate to produce meaning from the transformation given by the kinetic dimension itself. \nAt the same time, we will show how the writing of the edges, from its formal expression as an object-event, has other resources and modalities to represent the meanings added to the text by the illocutionary force. |
