This work was briefly exposed in the lecture of the author's investiture as an honorary doctor of the University of Buenos Aires on June 29, 2022. Together with the gratitude to people and institutions (particularly, the Dean, Doctor Alberto Bueres and the Director of the Department of Private Law, Doctor Carlos Clerc), the work has a first part in which, recalling the author's origins in the world of Civil Responsibility, he shows what Argentina and the Argentine civil law doctrine have meant to him throughout of his academic life. These are the first part of what Yzquierdo calls "Hispanic-Argentine experiences."The second part of this work is a critique of the «new modernity». In the professor's opinion, animals must be protected, and animal abuse in any of its forms must be avoided. And it is also necessary that civil law deals with treating animals as beings in need of special protection, and not as another piece of furniture. However, what is intolerable is that animals can be considered as «people», and the duties that people have with them as if they were correlative to non-existent «animal rights». Junto al agradecimiento a personas e instituciones (particularmente, al decano, Doctor Alberto Bueres y al director del Departamento de Derecho Privado, Doctor Carlos Clerc), el trabajo tiene una primera parte en la que, recordando el autor sus orígenes en el mundo de la Responsabilidad civil, pone de manifiesto lo que Argentina y la doctrina civilista argentina ha significado para él a lo largo de su vida académica. Son éstas la primera parte de lo Yzquierdo llama «experiencias hispanoargentinas». La segunda parte del trabajo es una crítica a la «nueva modernidad». En la opinión del profesor, es preciso que se proteja a los animales, y es necesario que se evite el maltrato animal en cualquiera de sus modalidades. Y es preciso también que el Derecho civil se ocupe de tratar a los animales como seres necesitados de una especial protección, y no como una cosa mueble más. Lo que en cambio resulta intolerable \nes que se pueda hablar de los animales como «personas», y de los deberes que las personas tenemos con ellos como si los mismos fueran correlativos a unos inexistentes «derechos de los animales». Son comparables las experiencias vividas en Argentina y en España.
