description The aim of this study was to analyze the frequency of endocrinopathies in cats diagnosed in the Endocrinology Unit of the Veterinary School Hospital, FCV-UBA in the period understood between March, 2003 and March, 2011. There were checked the case histories of 40 cats that were attendant in the mentioned institution. From the total of cases, Diabetes Mellitus represented 47.5% (19/40), the Hyperthyroidism was 20% (8/40), Hypothyroidism 15% (6/40) and Cushing?s syndrome 10% (4/40), being the endocrine disorders more frequent in the cats in our experience. With respect to the age of presentation (young, adult and elder) the endocrinopathies were more prevalent in adult and elder cats (45% either, 18/40). In the young cat group the prevalence was 10 % (4/40), being the Hypothyroidism in this group the main endocrine disorder (75 %, 3/4). By contrast, in adults and elders Diabetes Mellitus and Hyperthyroidism were the pathologies more prevalent, followed by the Hypothyroidism and Cushing?s syndrome. According to the sex, 55% were males and 45% females and in both sexes Diabetes Mellitus was the more prevalent endocrine disease.\nWe conclude that, at least in the evaluated period, Diabetes Mellitus was the endocrinopathy more frequently diagnosed in cats in our Hospital followed by the Hyperthyroidism, conversely to what were communicated by authors from countries of the north hemisphere, where the Hyperthyroidism is the fi rst endocrine disorder in cats.

Área Clínica Médica Pequeños Animales. Buenos Aires, Argentina Zapata, M.M.
