Although the subgingival microbiota on periodontal disease in the dog, has been studied, there are only abroad reports. In the knowledge of the authors none research of this type was carried out in our country. Because of that it was decided to study the subgingival microbiota and its susceptibility to antimicrobial drugs in dogs, suffering of spontaneously occurring periodontal disease that should be treated in the Surgical Service, Veterinary Medicine Teaching Hospital and in the Dental Service, Faculty of Veterinary Sciences, UBA. A total of 54 sites from 18 dogs were sampled subgingivaly with a Gracey curet, determining previously the periodontal status by means of a dental probe. A total of 105 microorganisms were isolated (79 aerobes and facultaty anaerobes and 28 strict anaerobes). Strict anaerobic bacterias were isolated more often in those sites with deeper periodontal pockets (greater than 4 mm). Susceptibility of antimicrobial was determined according to the Clinical and Laboratory Standards Institute (CLSI). None of the isolate microorganisms exhibited resistance to amoxicilin/acid clavulanic, gentamicine, vancomicine, clindamicin neither or metronidazol. The results obtained will be of great utility in the treatment of the affected dogs upon not being available data of this type in our country. |

Carloni, G. 2012 La microbiota subgingival relacionada con la enfermedad periodontal en el perro ha sido estudiada pero solo existen investigaciones realizadas en el exterior. En el conocimiento de los autores no hay trabajos sobre este tema en nuestro medio. Por ello se decidió estudiar la microbiota subgingival y su sensibilidad a antimicrobianos en pacientes caninos con enfermedad periodontal de ocurrencia espontánea, que debieran ser sometidos a tratamiento en el Servicio de Cirugía del Hospital Escuela de Medicina Veterinaria (HEMV) y en el Servicio de Odontología y Cirugía Máxilofacial, Facultad de Ciencias Veterinaria, UBA. De un total de 54 sitios provenientes de 18 perros, previa determinación del grado de periodontitis, se tomaron muestras subgingivales con cureta de Gracey y se aislaron 105 microorganismos (79 aerobios y anaerobios facultativos y 28 anaerobios estrictos). En aquellos sitios con bolsillos periodontales más profundos (mayores a 4 mm) se aislaron más frecuentemente bacterias anaerobias estrictas. Se determinó sensibilidad a antimicrobianos según Clinical and Laboratory Standards Institute (CLSI). Ninguno de los microorganismos aislados presentó resistencia a amoxicilina/ácido clavulánico, gentamicina, vancomicina, clindamicina o metronidazol.
