Sumario:Participation and training for an international competition provides an excellent opportunity for students to develop various skills needed in the practice of law, such as the analysis of complex problems, research in doctrine and jurisprudence, perform legal writing and oral argumentation, and in general terms, the resolution of problems of legal reasoning. The experience in training the UBA Law School team in the International Arbitration Competition organized by the Universidad de Buenos Aires and Universidad del Rosario de Bogotá, led us to consider how to extend the benefits of a so motivating and effective method to all interested students and not only to the best students. That is why we proposed a two or four month course focused on a competition, in which students are dedicated to the preparation of memorandums and training in oral argumentation for audiences. Participation in competitions is also a way to initiate students in research. The writing of memorandums in which the positions of both sides of the case are argued requires a process of data collection, analysis of these data and search for the best ways of applying and interpreting legal norms. Students are faced - perhaps for the first time - with international databases, foreign journals and books in other languages and must learn how to cite sources properly.
