Sumario:In the following paper I intend to analyze one character of the higher education: the acquisition of scientific criteria for a specialized area. Therefore, I will analyze the consequences that the mentioned acquisition implies for the professional exercise and the autonomous learning. Nevertheless, in the area of Law, I claim that the mentioned acquisition of scientific criteria may have implications in the quality of democratic institutions. That is the case as long as we understand democracy as the public participation of citizens in the task of demanding and giving explanations in regards of the acts of government. In this sense, the legal technicians play a fundamental role. Thus, this paper proposes some strategies in order to promote the acquisition of scientific criteria in the realm of Law and narrates some experiences.
