Therefore, we do not need to make new theoretical tools or prepare some special concepts, we can simply use the ones we have, with the correspondent adaptations. I will deploy my arguments in two sections to defend my position. First, I will briefly discuss what is a right and which are its foundations. Theories usually used in the human case will be offered as appropriate for animals too. In this section I will also introduce the term speciesism, which operates as the mail reason to deny the extensions of rights I propose here. In the second section, I will describe the political theory for animal rights offered by Sue Donaldson and Will Kymlicka. Esta posición, que rechaza el especismo como discriminación injustificada, descansa en razones sobre las que ya hay consenso en la comunidad académica. En este sentido, no necesitamos confeccionar herramientas conceptuales especiales o nuevas, podemos simplemente recurrir a las que ya tenemos para rechazar la injusticia interespecies. A tal fin, desplegaré los argumentos en dos secciones. En primer lugar, presentaré una breve discusión sobre qué es un derecho y cuáles son sus fundamentos. Las teorías usualmente empleadas para el caso humano se ofrecerán como apropiadas para los demás animales. En esta sección introduciré el término especismo, que opera como la razón más importante para negar la extensión de derechos que aquí propongo. En la segunda parte desarrollaré los aspectos de una teoría política para los derechos de los animales según la propuesta de Sue Donaldson y Will Kymlicka.
