This paper specifically analyses the process of the State’s modelling systematisation which might have allowed such model to operate as a defining institution in the development of other secondary school forms. The article then explores the effects of the abovementioned systematisation and discusses the form adopted by the segmentation during the secondary school expansion. Both primary sources, i.e. official decrees and regulations, and secondary sources on this subject are quoted. El trabajo parte de la hipótesis de la expansión de la escuela secundaria sobre la base de una dinámica de incorporación y expulsión simultánea en la cual el modelo institucional de origen, centrado en el colegio nacional, parece haber desempeñado un papel clave. En particular, analiza el proceso de sistematización estatal modelizadora por medio del que dicho modelo podría haber operado como institución determinante en el desarrollo de otras modalidades de enseñanza secundaria. Avanza luego sobre los efectos de la sistematización estatal modelizadora en la forma que adoptó la segmentación durante la expansión de la escuela secundaria.
