This practice, based on annulment or negation, or in the best scenario, on the repression of the Other, encompasses a destructive attitude toward the pre-existing, an attitude that persists at the end of the 20th century and into the 21st in a society that perceives itself as modern. En Chile, los sucesivos proyectos de plasmación de identi­dad(es) colectiva(s) , desde comienzos del siglo XX hasta nuestros días, pese a sus rasgos diferenciadores, presentan una notoria continuidad: un comportamiento de los que instauran el discurso social oficial que intenta anular la existencia del otro dentro del sí mismo y del otro fuera de uno mismo, en tanto co-forjador de una nación abierta, pluralista y verdaderamente moderna.
