Se relevan, a partir de la consulta de la literatura especializada, las características particulares de las microformas y la problemática inherente a su gestión en las bibliotecas. En primer lugar, se realiza una breve reseña histórica sobre el origen y evolución de estos recursos para, luego, presentar una tipología y algunas aproximaciones terminológicas. Se considera especialmente la descripción bibliográfica y se proporcionan lineamientos generales sobre la determinación de los puntos de acceso. Se contemplan otras cuestiones relativas a su gestión, como ser su selección, almacenamiento y preservación.
