It concludes with some recommendations to improve the efficiency of  subject searching  in public libraries. Se presentan los resultados de un trabajo de campo realizado en 2003, con el objetivo de conocer las herramientas de recuperación por materia ofrecidas por las bibliotecas públicas de la Ciudad de Buenos Aires.  Se describen  el vocabulario y el sistema de clasificación utilizados; como así  también, las posibilidades de acceso temático a través de estanterías abiertas, con un orden físico de la colección por materia, y catálogos en línea de acceso público.
