Sumario:This text presents some remarks on the way through which Presence Studies are circumscribed from an epistemological point of view. It presents an overview of the context of academic research to which this perspective belongs and of the self-referential form of performance research. We examine presence in the work of the actor and its relationship to meaning in order to delimit a field of problematization of the inadequacy of interpretation as the sole path to access knowledge. With ideas of Michel Foucault and Hans Ulrich Gumbrecht as a starting point, we propose other research alternatives for performative practices
