After a brief review of his life, we will focus on his attempt to present a close link with the visionary of Ávila as a legitimizing element of his person and work. Finally, we will consider Gracián´s attempt to base the unifying factor between him and Teresa on the Renaissance notion of Platonic love, making the act of loving the premise of a vicarious authority that finally remained more in the order of longing rather than on the practice.
